Chetana – The Sexuality Resource Center

Chetana is a resource center on sexuality conceived and supported by Sappho for Equality. As the name suggests, Chetana aspires to create awareness about sexuality, with special focus on same-sex love among women. More concretely, the resource center provides information on LGBT issues in the form of books, periodicals, news clippings, audio and video cassettes, CDs DVDs, photographs, posters, advocacy material etc.

The center also provides facilities for personal and legal counseling for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women and their families through the service of experts in the respective fields. Chetana has already embarked on an extensive program of knowledge-sharing through seminars, workshops, study-circles and film screenings, held on a regular basis. Chetana’s library is expanding everyday and promises to become a treasure trove of all kinds of literature on sexuality with reprographic services and audio-visual facilities.

Thus Chetana, Sappho for Equality’s dream child, hopes to build bridges of communication with all thinking and believing people for a better understanding of LGBT issues and to thereby create a wider base for the feminist and human rights movement in general.

The center remains open six days a week from 12 noon to 8 pm on weekdays, and from 12 noon to 4 pm on Sunday. Monday is the weekly holiday.
